There seems to be an outbreak of puppies in Wanstead at the moment. First there was Pepsi a Beagle next door to the Gallery, then Noel at The Nightingale got Sheba, a Rhodesian Ridgeback and now here is this adorable Border Collie. I spotted 3 month old Toby taking his mistress for a walk along Cambridge Park last Saturday night, a great little guy.

Watching rush hour traffic on Cambridge Park the other evening at around 5.30 pm, I was amazed how much faster it is at that time of night to be on two wheels rather than four.  This trendy alternative transport is fast catching on. I was surprised at the number of bikes that flew past me.

I have been waiting for a while to take this photograph. It's the lights at the zebra crossing on Cambridge Park. It needed a dark and brooding sky to makes the lights stand out. Everything came together last night as we were on the way  home from dinner.

Walking along Cambridge Park the other day when I spotted this door on the other side of the road. Painted red, made of heavy metal with this striking design on it and with a bright yellow padlock, it intrigued me. With the green ivy growing over it gave the whole thing a great colour palette.

GOLDEN WHEELS..

Wandering along Cambridge Park the other day past 'Biketrax' I  couldn't help but do a double take. The sign had gone and there in it's place was a wonderful golden cycle, what a great idea. The age of the bike is upon us and apart from selling, repairing and servicing bike's they also have a really creative way of drawing attention to cycling.

It's easy to miss this brick building on Cambridge Park, it's near the junction with Highstone Avenue. It's not a really interesting photograph but it's what was below the structure that's interesting.

In 1940 the Plessey factory in Ilford producing aircraft components including wiring and wireless sets for aeroplanes was bombed. The solution for safer manufacturing was to move everything underground. The Central Line tunnel from Leytonstone to Gants Hill had been completed but was not yet in use so that became Plessey's new factory. At one time there were around 4000 people  working underground in the tunnel. The brick structure in the photograph was a ventilation shaft.

So next time you are on the Central Line at Wanstead, Redbridge of Gants Hill you'll know a little of the history.
