SPRING IS IN THE AIR...

Wanstead's guerrilla gardner Marion Temple popped in the Gallery the other day, she had news and the leaflet in the picture above. As you may well know Marion lovingly plants up the odd patches of otherwise unloved earth around Wanstead. Her plan for next year it to take on Nightingale Green, on Sunday 18th October 2015 11am onwards everyone is invited to join her in planting spring bulbs! Marion says 'families are more than welcome' so the more the merrier just bring along tools if you have them and help bring some colour to Nightingale Green next spring. Donations toward the cost of bulbs welcome, do try to come along...

I came across this leaf trapped in the bare branches of a bush this morning as I crossed Nightingale Green. I just like the way it had landed there, kind of on display showing itself off rather than floating to the floor. The contrast of colours is nice too.

A BIT OF EARLY SUMMER..

It felt like a lovely, warm early summers day as I walked across Nightingale Green earlier today. A bit of sunshine just makes everything look better. I spotted these buttercups in amongst the daisies, looked to me like the daisies were ganging up on them, hopefully a smashing weekend weatherwise.

Finished I presume Nightingale Green and I personally think it is much better than a sea of black tarmac.  The new path is so much better on the eye, the main advantage being that the stones, or very few of them anyway are loose. The rest are firmly imbedded in a "glue" so they won't be going anywhere.

At first glance you may think that I took this picture on the beach at Southend or some other pebbled location.  It is however, the new surface on the paths of Nightingale Green.  For the last few weeks it was thought we would look at a sea of black tarmac.  A sigh of relief our new pebbles look wonderful.

It's been very busy lately so I haven't been out and about in Wanstead as much as I'd like. I've been in the West Country, then editing loads of pictures from magazine shoots and of course working on the e.book. Also I have been looking through some of the local pictures that I have taken and have found a couple that I really like but have forgotten to put on, so let let me put that right over the next couple of days.

This picture was taken earlier this year, the tree with the bare branches is on Nightingale Green it was one of those evenings with a lovely sunset, we had quite a few.

A LOO WITH A VIEW..

This is not the normal view of Nightingale Green that I usually observe. As you can see work is well under way, portable loo, piles of earth, heavy machinery and cones, its all happening. I can't wait to see the finished result. 

CRESCENT MOON..

As I was leaving the gallery the other evening there was  a lovely moon in the sky. Although it was a crescent, not a full moon it was so clear. I hurried to photograph it before the cloud cover arrived. I don't know much about the night sky, but I think I managed to identify 'the plough' the other night, sort of North West of Wanstead? If you know about these things please drop me a line to let me know if I am looking in the right direction !

I went onto Nightingale Green to take this photograph, I wanted to include the bare branches of this tree. As you probably know 'the Green' is undergoing a major facelift and should look great in five or six months time.

Our gallery is opposite Nightingale Green, it's a great position for us, we are lucky to be able to look out over it every day at work. I don't often see it in the evening but I was passing last night and saw these pools of light cast by the lamps. I just thought it looked lovely.
