I do like to discover something a little unusual. So you can imagine how delighted I was to discover this old chair in the garden of The Corner House. It might not look a lot now but just wait until the plants grow over and through it. 

SEA SHELLS FROM THE SEA SHORE NOW IN WANSTEAD...

You have probably noticed how well kept and attractive the front garden is at The Corner House on the High Street. Well the other day I wandered around the back and that was looking pretty smart as well. What really caught me eye though was these sea shells that someone had taken the trouble to line up on the 'rustic' brick wall. Nice touch.

I spoke with Wanstead's guerrilla gardner, Marian Temple the other day, she was telling me about her recent planting in The Corner House garden. It's a little unusual as it's in the form of a toilet cistern, it might look a little unusual now but in the coming months when it's weathered in and some of the greenery has taken hold it will be a great addition. Marian has also been busy at Wanstead station, if that turns out half as good as the garden of the 'little house' on the corner of Sylvan Road that will be great. Anyway here's a couple more shots of The Corner House garden, it is going to look fab all summer.

THE CORNER HOUSE..

This is the Corner House on the High Street a former doctor's surgery, everybody knows it. It was renovated by T-Space architects who are on the upper floors,  Age Concern occupy the ground. The interesting thing is the plaque on the Grove Park side of the building, it is for James Bradley. Bradley, 1693 - 1762, was the third Astronomer Royal and according to the plaque 'was first to demonstrate that the earth moved around the sun'. I believe his observations were made from The Rectory in Wanstead, now whether that was on the site of the Corner House or not I do not know. As ever any further information welcome.
