I found this swan on the lake in Wanstead Park. I wasn't that close to him/her but as you can see it kept a very wary eye on me. I particularly like the water drops on the feathers and the two dripping off the beak.

This is another picture from my little off the path excursion in Wanstead Park. After I shot the close up that I published yesterday I pulled back to include quite a bit more. I quite like  the different jumble of leaves, twigs and ivy etc, its a bit more chaotic than the close up.

Its always interesting to move a little off the path and see what you can find. In this case just three or four feet of the pathway I came across a fallen log with this plant growing on it. I have no idea what it is but it looks so delicate and fragile I took great care not to disturb it.

I walked along the path following the lake in Wanstead Park
last Sunday and arrived at The Grotto. Built in 1761 it was actually the boathouse for Wanstead House in its heyday, as you can see it's a bit of a ruin now but it still looks attractive. I think there has been some work going on as there appears some debris in the lake and the undergrowth around the site has been cut back to allow access to the fence. You can now get a clear view of what was the inside as you can see below. It wasn't great light so I converted the pictures to black and white. More Wanstead Park to come...

I popped over to Wanstead Park yesterday for an hour. It was such a lovely morning, even a little sunshine. The park was busy, a typical Wanstead Sunday, families out with children, joggers and of course dogs. Don't ya just love Wanstead..more on the park later in the week.

I had such a good shoot in Wanstead Park the other day, I still have a few pictures to publish so please bear with me! I particularly like this one because to me it's not quite perfect . The park has so many great views, I was pleased to find this log lying in the water it just threw the view a little off kilter to me.

I met this character over in Wanstead Park, rather handsome my daughter thought. Bit of a sad expression in this picture but when we met up he was very cheerful and interested in everything.

I came across this weathered  wall on my Wanstead Park walk the other day. It runs  along the side of the river Roding, I wonder if perhaps it was part of the original Wanstead House layout and used as a dock for boats on the river. Any suggestions welcome.

I came across this pile of felled trees on my Wanstead Park walk. There was something about they way they were all lined up and orderly, it had to be a black and white shot of course.

This is another picture from my Wanstead Park walk. A lady who was out with her friend kindly pointed this stork heron out to me. Unfortunatley I didn't have a telephoto lens with me to get a closeup, as it flew away however I managed to grab this shot of it flying across the lake. Not very conventional but I quite like the square composition of the picture.

A WALK IN THE PARK..

I had a walk around the lake in Wanstead Park earlier today, the first time for quite long while. I was surprised to see that most of the surface of the water is cover in weed, I think it's green algea, looks the same to me as the stuff covering Alexandra Lake on Wanstead Flats. It was still as lovely as ever, just a little different. I came across this platform  protruding out into the water, at first I thought is was an observation deck but it turned out to be something to do with the lakes overflow system. I was however really struck by the brightly coloured padlocks that secured the safety chain, couldn't resist doing a close up.
