This is the alley that runs between Woodbine Place and the High Street, I don't think it has a name, if you know otherwise please let me know. I have photographed it before in daylight, click here to check it out, but at night it takes on another personality. I think it's because there is a bend half way along so you don't know what's around the corner...

HOW OLD?

I know I have posted a picture of this building before, it's on the corner of the High Street and Woodbine Place, but I have never really looked at it before from the High Street side. It always fascinates me, I am sure some parts are really old and not just reproduction. If you take a close look at the size of the bricks used to build the chimney for example they seem so small, I'm sure that's a clue to its age. Anyway whatever the age it always transports me back in time when I am passing.

One of the things I enjoy most about producing this blog is discovering something new. I was walking across Christ Church Green, a journey I've made countless times before when I spotted this wonderful woodwork on the side of this building. I really like the horizontal lines of the planks and the tiles on the adjoining roofs. If it wasn't for the bricks on the building behind it would be like being whisked back in time. Where is it I hear you cry, well it's the flank wall of local estate agent Petty Son and Prestwich in Woodbine Place. Always something new to discover.

I'VE SOLVED THE PARKING PROBLEM..

I came across this parking technique in Woodbine Place, ingenious or what. You just need a Smart car and you are all set.

There was a famous American detective series called 'Dragnet in the 50's', the memorable phrase was 'the names have been changed to protect the innocent'. As you can see I have changed the number plate.

These little cottages nestling in Woodbine Place seem to have been here forever.  I cannot find any history about them so if anyone can enlighten please let me know.  They are really lovely and are so in keeping with The Green opposite.

This is a picture taken from Woodbine Place at dusk of Wanstead Library opened by Patrick Jenkin MP for Woodford on the 4th October 1969.  Fortunately, unlike many other libraries it has remained opened. Although it's an easy building to overlook in daylight, at dusk the light shining through the windows of this three tiered building is hard to ignore.
