CHERRY PEY IN WANSTEAD.
Photographs World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved.
There has been a public house on the site of The George, Wanstead for hundreds of years but have you ever noticed the 1752 plaque built into the brickwork in memory of Wanstead's Cherry Pie. There are various theories what is yours and do you know where the orchards were?

WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE ...

Walking across Christchurch Green I came across this lone daisy which to me signified the last of the Summer. Now will be the time for Winter berries.

CHRISTCHURCH, WANSTEAD
Photograph world@ Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved.
This lovely church was built by Sir George Scott in 1861. The soft yellow stonework seems to me to change colour in different light. I have photographed it several times and for me it is in sunlight that it really comes to life.

THE CHURCH OF ST. MARY THE VIRGIN
Photograph world © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved.
This fabulous church is the only Grade 1 listed building in Redbridge. It was designed by the Architect Thomas Hardwick in the late 18th Century. The foundation stone was laid in 1787 some 70ft north of the original medieval church and today still retains the original 1790 pews. I never tire of photographing London's amazing architecture.

TICK TOCK NATURES CLOCK....

A childhood memory of blowing the dandelion to tell the time. I captured this on camera in the last days of summer in Wanstead. How different the world looks when you stop and look closely.

COULDN'T RESIST ANOTHER VIEW OF THE TEMPLE...

THE TEMPLE, WANSTEAD PARK
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved.
This week, just before the Winter sets in we thought we would remind you of a few beautiful Wanstead places we have enjoyed on sunny days.
This beautiful historic building "The Temple" dates from the 1760s and was built as a fashionable garden feature by John Child in the landscaped gardens of Wanstead House. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful park on our doorstep.

FOR....EVERGREEN FIELD .....

... there is the possibility that it will be no more. Imagine not being able to sit across from here drinking a cup of coffee looking out at this lovely green space, and instead looking at houses or flats. When other London communities are surrounded like us with Town and City, for me one of the reasons Wanstead retains its unique village atmosphere is because much of the High Street has shops and buildings only on one side. As the name suggests I hope it remains ever green.

THE SUN GOING DOWN ON ME...

Leaving Waitrose in South Woodford I saw these incredible colours appearing on the horizon and immediately sped to Snaresbrook Pond. Low and behold I captured these amazing colours a few seconds before they drifted away toward the City. Another one in the bag !

GREAT ESCAPE ...
Photographs World© Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved.
... an engineering Triumph - is this the motorcycle Steve McQueen used ?
I spotted this lovely machine, beautifully kept and couldn't resist taking the picture. I don't know what it is but each time I see a motorbike or a scooter I have to go for some kind of "effect". In this case seeing all that fantastic glistening chrome I just had to reach for a starburst filter.

...did Pocohontas pass this way? The daughter of Powhatan an indian chief in Virginia, she was reputed to have saved the life of Captain John Smith who arrived in Virginia, USA with more than a hundred other settlers in 1607. She died at the age of 22 in 1617 in Gravesend in Kent, England. She was laid to rest in St.George's Church graveyard.

This is our lovely Wanstead Village Police Station that is under threat of closure. Opened in September 1886 it is the only police station in London that still retains a traditional blue lamp. To the people of Wanstead it still signifies safety. Please may it continue.

Walking across George Green in Wanstead I came across this recently fallen clump of English Oak leaves, yet another reminder of the brilliant colours of Autumn.

NOSTALGIA.
Photograph World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
As much as I love the countryside, and I do, all those who have seen my Spitalfield project know that every time I see an urban scene I just have to take a picture. This is the view from our workshop which used to be an old stable back in the days when grocers had horse drawn deliveries (nostalgia).
