...picture. I'm almost at the end of this set of Wanstead Park pictures. I took this one shortly before I left the park. It's a very simple picture but I like the bare branches of the trees against the sky. I'm sure on my next visit they will be covered in buds or leaves.

A SENSE OF PROPORTION..

This is another picture from my Wanstead Park excursion and its one of my favourites. What I really like about it is that there is no real sense of scale. Its actually quite a small block of ice resting on a log with that lovely plant growing around it. To me it looks like an ariel view of an ice covered mountain range surrounded by jungle.. its all in the eye of the beholder..

I'VE GOT THE HUMP..

I came across this strange sight in Wanstead Park the other day. Its an area of ground covered in humps, there are dozens of them. At first I though they were mole hills but on reflection I think they are too large and as I say there are masses of them next to each other. I have no idea what they are but if any readers know please let me know!

This is one of many of the footpaths that run through Wanstead Park. As you can see they are well trod, they are usually worth following though and despite the worn look its unusual to pass anyone else. In the summer when the trees and bushes are in full flow and the birds are singing you really could be in the middle of the countryside and not just a few miles from central London

As I mentioned in a blog earlier this week, the lake in Wanstead Park has a covering of algae over a large part of it. However when I found these overhanging branches I thought I would use it to my advantage. I think it makes a lovely backdrop to the leaves, to me it has an oriental feel to it.

This is another photograph from my Wanstead Park walk. I really like the way these tree trunks have been laid to form paths, it helps to keep people from trampling over the bluebells when they are out. I deliberately shot this picture from very low down to include the fungus growing out of the side of the trunk. There's also a small frog or toad in the picture, I'm afraid I don't know the difference, it's well hidden and didn't seem to mind my presence.

This tree is in the bluebell wood in Wanstead Park. I'm always on the lookout for strong designs within the bark of trees, having the ivy growing around the trunk of this one was a bonus for the picture.

This is the path in Wanstead Park that leads to the bluebell wood. As I arrived the sun broke through the canopy of leaves overhead, I thought it looked lovely in the dappled sunlight. We are so lucky to have such a great resource on our doorstep.

AWAY FROM THE HEAT

I popped over to Wanstead Park yesterday to the area where the bluebells grow. Of course no bluebells at this time of the year but it was lovely under the canopy of the trees, very cool a nice escape from the heat. Not that I'm complaining...

...next year. I popped over to Wanstead Park last evening to have a look at the bluebell wood, I just hadn't had a chance before. Although past their best I am certainly glad that I went and was able to take these photographs to show you. Going in the evening worked out quite well I was practically alone apart from the odd dog walker and jogger, being in a wood as it starts to get dark certainly makes for a different atmosphere.

Continuing my walk through the Aldersbrook Estate the other day I came upon these bikes chained together. They were outside the entrance to Wanstead Park. It was a lovely day, I hope the owners were enjoying a nice cup of tea at the refreshment kiosk.

While I was walking in the bluebell woods in Wanstead Park I came across this structure.  Made of branches I imagine it's for children to play in, the shape reminded me of a teepee used by the American Indians. Whatever it's use it's a beautiful shape and really fits in well with the woodland.

Here's another photograph from the bluebell woods. Bit more of a traditional view this time but getting in close works well. I really like the way the colour of the blooms leap out from the background.

A follower suggested the Bluebell Wood in Wanstead Park would be worth a visit. Such a profusion it was difficult to know where to start, the pools of dappled light in the cool wood was perfect. I put the camera on the ground and shot upwards, I just really like the looming trees reaching for the sky. Watch out for another picture from the woods tomorrow. A thank you to my follower.

Continuing my walk the other day in Wanstead Park I heard the sound of running water. I looked around and found this overflow pipe flowing into the lake. The noise was so soothing I sat down for a while and being low down I closed in nearer and took this lovely image.

The expanse of Wanstead Park is fascinating and seems never ending.  In front of me the path I was on split into two, which one should I take, where would it lead me and what hidden pictures would I find ?

I was in Wanstead Park early in the morning just wondering around and found this spot where I could get very close to the lake at almost water level.  The fallen tree and the leaves in the water and on the bank inspired this picture.  For me it has an eerie feeling and shows just how versatile the park is in all seasons.

This week, just before the Winter sets in we thought we would remind you of a few beautiful Wanstead places we have enjoyed on sunny days.

This beautiful historic building "The Temple" dates from the 1760s and was built as a fashionable garden feature by John Child in the landscaped gardens of Wanstead House.  We are so lucky to have such a wonderful park on our doorstep.
