UP ON THE ROOF..

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved

I was passing through St James Square in London the other day when I spotted these statues on a roof. There was no indication on the front of the building about who owned it or what they did but I assume it was something 'classic'. it certainly broke up the skyline...

  3. Nice one. They don't make buildings like they used to.

  5. I'm no good at mythology, I'm sure they have something to do with it... I mean, that's a head in the hand of the one on the left, isn't it?

    Anyway, this is cool!

  6. I believe those might be the nine Muses of Greek mythology, who ruled over the arts and sciences. One is holding the mask of drama/tragedy, another is holding the musical instrument the lyre, and so forth.

    1. Decoration I expect, could be something to do with the original owners of the building...

  11. Wonderful Georgian and neo-Georgian architecture...Built 1836, probably by Thomas Cubitt. Former home of Augusta Lovelace... redeveloped in 2007 to provide a sympathetic mix of modern Grade A office space...Available to rent...

    1. That's great information thank you very much, I wonder what the rent is considering London prices!

  12. When in London..... I have to admit that windows (shops) and different colourful front doors plus GARDENS are what I tend to look at. If I find a cheap air ticket and hotel, I might pop over for 2-3 days in mid May.... I will try to look up and see London differently:)
Anyway, thanks for sharing this...... Don`t think we have any roof like this in Norway. Perhaps old grand buildings in Oslo, but not in Stavanger.
