DECISIONS, DECISIONS...

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
While I was photographing the swans that I posted on yesterdays blog I noticed how lovely Jubilee Ponds was looking with the sun sparkling off the water. The first picture I took, see below, was alright but not really great, then I took a second with the water deliberately out of focus... I like it a lot better!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR..

.....anyway I'm not a swan expert but I suspect that was what all the fuss was about. This pair of swans were all over Jubilee Pond sometimes chasing sometimes almost flying, they were so fast they seemed to blend into one. I expect as its spring, l'amour est dans l'air..

ALEXANDRA LAKE

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved

The other evening I popped over to Alexandra Lake on Wanstead Flats, I haven't been there for some time. It was a bit of a surprise to see a great deal of it covered in a floating 'growth' of some sort. This poor lake does seem to suffer what with the flooding last year. Now that Jubilee pond has been regenerated and looks great perhaps Alexandra Lake could be next on the list when funds allow?

COULDN'T RESIST..

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved

I took this picture on my visit to Jubilee Pond on Wanstead Flats the other evening. I couldn't resist taking this shot as the sun sank lower, a minute or so later it had disappeared. I have to say Wanstead Flats is a great place for sunset watching.

ALMOST FINISHED..

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved

I took a trip over to Jubilee Pond on Wanstead Flats yesterday to see how things were progressing. What a surprise, it's looking great, the ground work seems to be almost finished and it looks like it just needs planting up.   There is a broad path running all the way around with a viewing platform at one point, it just needs the birdlife back in place to complete it. I am not sure what these logs are for but I hope they are staying and being put to use. I think they fit in  with the environment really well and of course help with the composition of my photograph.

NEW BEGINNINGS...

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved

This is Jubilee Pond on Wanstead Flats, you may remember I photographed it a few weeks ago full of water with dramatic clouds overhead. I visited again this week and what a different scene, the pond has been unable to retain water for some time so it has been drained and is being fitted with a new  impermeable lining. Really good news for the birds and water plants, it should be finished by the summer.

THE BIRDS......

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved

During this cold spell it's great to see that people are putting out food for bird's. This photograph was taken at  the Jubilee Pond on Wanstead Flats, it used to be the Model Yatch Pond but now it's a wildlife pond and a hub for birds. I'm not sure who put out the food but it was much appreciated. Coincidentaly Alfred Hitchcock the director of the film version of 'The Birds' was born just down the road in Leytonstone.
