ALEXANDRA LAKE

World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved

The other evening I popped over to Alexandra Lake on Wanstead Flats, I haven't been there for some time. It was a bit of a surprise to see a great deal of it covered in a floating 'growth' of some sort. This poor lake does seem to suffer what with the flooding last year. Now that Jubilee pond has been regenerated and looks great perhaps Alexandra Lake could be next on the list when funds allow?

  1. It almost looks like low tide in a bay...

    1. Glad you like the picture, I was lucky to have such a cloud formation in the sky.

  3. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that's green algae. It often proliferates on the pond during a period of prolonged sunny weather, and usually a good rainstorm clears it up somewhat. I've noticed this and other ponds go through cycles of having more and then having then less of this algae -- it always seems to die away again eventually.

    1. Thank you for your comment, I look forward to posting a photograph at some stage with clear water, it does take the edge of the view.
