I walked along the path following the lake in Wanstead Park
last Sunday and arrived at The Grotto. Built in 1761 it was actually the boathouse for Wanstead House in its heyday, as you can see it's a bit of a ruin now but it still looks attractive. I think there has been some work going on as there appears some debris in the lake and the undergrowth around the site has been cut back to allow access to the fence. You can now get a clear view of what was the inside as you can see below. It wasn't great light so I converted the pictures to black and white. More Wanstead Park to come...

I really like the mood in black and white!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, it just wasn't right in colour
DeleteWhat a feeling to this place! I definitely think the b&w works for these shots. I especially like that first one.
ReplyDeleteYes it's a special place
DeleteI like the head of the second
ReplyDeleteIts the first time I've been able to get a clear picture of what was the interior
DeleteBlack and white is perfect for these images Geoff.. Beautiful reflections in the first shot and oh my j'adore the arches in the second.. I absolutely heart arches :)
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you them, there is a bench across the lake facing the Grotto it's a perfect spot to sit in the quiet of the park.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflection in the first photo. B&W seems to suit this subject well.
ReplyDeleteI've come across several reflections lately, they can be very enticing
DeleteThe grotto is Versailles' cousin. The second shot has got to be one of the only buildings -or leftovers- with a real face that I know...
ReplyDeleteWell spotted and a French cousin to boot....
