A BIRD IN THE HAND etc..

This is another picture from my Wanstead Park walk. A lady who was out with her friend kindly pointed this stork heron out to me. Unfortunatley I didn't have a telephoto lens with me to get a closeup, as it flew away however I managed to grab this shot of it flying across the lake. Not very conventional but I quite like the square composition of the picture.

Check out The Fringe page at the top for a list of my photo walks during The Fringe, any camera will do, just come along and enjoy!

  1. I may be mistaken, but I believe that is a grey heron; a stork flying keeps its neck out straight, while a heron has that zig-zag shape in its neck. One of the several ponds in Wanstead Park is named "Heronry Lake" or Heronry Pond because it used to have a large population of grey herons. There aren't as many now, but they are about, on all the waters in the park. Nice shot though, they are elusive and it's easy to miss out on grabbing a picture in time!

    1. Well spotted, it is of course a heron. I took the picture on the lake that is over by the river Roding, I believe it's called The Ornamental Water.

    1. A little bit of misinformation I'm afraid, it was actually a heron. I must buy a bird recognition book!
