This is the Victorian Pumping Station in Roding Lane South, although it is slightly out of Wanstead you can see it quite clearly from the River Roding. I rather like the fact that the Victorians went to so much trouble with their buildings, I feel they always made a statement, not that I am an expert. The 'curved bits' between the top of the wall and the roof just add a bit of a flourish to a substantial working building..

ReplyDeletePersonally I don't think you can beat the Victorians for style Geoff, all those marvelous flourishes take this style of architecture to a new level.
