I have always wondered why some days the litter seems to be scattered around Nightingale Green. I think this bird may be part of the problem. It cheekily sat on one of the rubbish bins and rooted through the contents while I took this picture. It would have made a good extra in the film 'The Birds' by almost local lad Alfred Hitchcock...
Oh that pesky black crow would definitely be part of the litter problem Geoff.. I was just watching one this afternoon bullying the smaller birds in the birdbath.. not very appealing birds.
ReplyDeleteYou're right and the ones around here just seem to get bigger and bigger..

ReplyDeleteCheeky fellow!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely cheeky, it takes a lot to frighten them off...
DeleteThat's a GIANT crow. They are very smart birds, actually.
ReplyDeleteI know, they seem to get bigger every year!
DeleteStealing? Hardly! But yes, the seagulls used to do that in Brittany when I lived there!
ReplyDeleteOK, scavenging then... I have just watched a documentary about seagulls on England's south coast, they actually pinch sandwiches, chips etc from people hands!
DeleteLike all animals, merely trying to survive in an urban setting where dirty humans create waste and rubbish. Crows are amazing animals. Researchers have found them to have "thinking" ability at the level of human children ages 5 to 10, or of the great apes. They can problem solve, make and utilize tools to get at food sources. Super intelligent -- and just trying to live in whatever way they find.
